Valuation of Christmas trees using drones
The project will investigate how drones can help optimise Christmas tree production. The drones will be used to count the trees and measure their heights.
Background
Based on an inquiry from the Christmas tree industry, it is being investigated how drones can help optimise operations. Precise knowledge of the condition of a crop on a field / plantation can be used by the farmer to optimise the operation of production. A recurring task in connection with Christmas tree production is the valuation of a production area. The valuation is based on the number of Christmas trees, as well as their height distribution. In the activity, drones are used to count the trees and measure their heights.
Purpose / Vision
The purpose of the activity is to spread knowledge about how data from drones can be processed so that drones can create value in the operations of the participating companies. It is desired to develop a proof of concept where drones can count and height estimate Christmas trees.
Expected results
After the project is completed, the participating companies themselves will be able to use drones to count and estimate the heights of Christmas trees.
